To Be The Boy That Never Grows Up

We have all heard the story of Peter Pan either through watching the films or by reading the book. We often see this so much as a fantasy type novel that we often understate the relevance it has to real life. As we grow up our innocence gradually gets replaced by experience and although it's a needed part of life, it's a real shame as we never really realise it's happening until it's too late. As such, we often don't appreciate our innocence until we lose it.

Although as we grow up we do require that extra bit experience to help us get through life which means giving up some of our innocence, it doesn't mean we have to give it all up. The key to longer lasting youth isn't in the way we look or feel physically but rather in our state of mind. As the saying goes, growing old doesn't mean growing up. Agreed, there are times when we have to face the situation with a certain degree of maturity and experience, but that doesn't we have to spend out whole lives like that. Actually, taking it one step further, there may be times when it might be better to retain and show your more youthful innocent side. This may be when interacting with children or just letting go on occasion and doing something new and exciting.

The benefits of embracing our youthful side are twofold. First it improves your quality of life and creates a sense of happiness and fulfilment. The second benefit is that there is increasing evidence to show that not only does it improve your quality of life but it may also extend the length of your life and that can only be a good thing. So I guess the point to this blog post is to say yes, grow where you need to but try not to lose everything that makes us innocent. Innocence is a precious gift and one we can't get back if and when we lose it. So do something new and exciting every so often, something in which you have no experience, and endeavour to try and find that balance between innocence and experience, well, as much as you can anyway.
