Book Review: Peter Pan (Peter and Wendy)

The innocence of a child is a gift to be cherished and protected. Peter Pan is a character many a child can relate to. The wanting to never grow up and to go on fighting the good fight against an imaginary foe is at the very heart of this book. Peter and Wendy is not only a book for children but one for adults who want to think back to their childhood days and the innocence and imagination they once had.

At the start of this book we see Wendy on the cusp of adolescence get whisked away to the wondrous Neverland where she could live out her days and never have to worry about growing up. This is a desire in which we all have at some point in our lives and thus one we can all relate to. Then at the end of the book we see Wendy make her return to London and embrace the next stage of her life that lies just around the corner. Wendy's emotional journey through this story sees many a battle between the lost boys and the savage pirates and these are battles that would fire the imagination of any child that no modern story or TV show could.

Again, this is an old story that has been retold many times over the years but one that remains relevant to this day. This is coupled with a positive moral embedded within the heart of the tale that is relevant to children and adults alike. Yes, we all have to grow up sooner or later but that doesn't mean we have to forget and leave behind those childhood qualities that make us who we are when we're children. So yes, we all want to live that childhood Peter Pan fantasy of never having to grow up but as with Wendy, this feeling would only be temporary and we'll actually come to that point where we look forward to growing up. But growing up doesn't have to mean we lose are childhood imagination and our desire to have a bit of fun every now and then.

Simply, this is a book we all should read at some point in our lives and one that transcends all those age old boundaries and one I thoroughly recommend.

For those who are interested, Peter and Wendy is available for free as an ebook here for the Amazon Kindle. If you don't have a Kindle and want to read it for free on your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone, read my blog on how you can download the free Kindle App.
