A Library of Free Books at Your Fingertips

Nothing beats the feel and smell of a new book. That fresh smell the book gives off and the feel of the pages running between your fingers. Even with the rise of electronic books such as Amazon's "Kindle" I doubt the old passion and sentimentality that comes with reading a paperback will ever completely disappear. However, at the same time I believe we should embrace the resource that is electronic books or e-books for short.

With that in mind, for those who enjoy reading or wish to start reading but don't want to splash out on a load of books or an e-reader, fear not, there is a solution. Although Amazon has been criticized in recent years in relation to their tax affairs, what they do offer is a way for you to access a library of classic literature free of charge from your laptop. (And legally I might add) The Amazon App is a free and easy download for you laptop, tablet or smartphone which literally takes less than five minutes to set up. Once downloaded, it allows you access to a library of books at a click of a button, many of which are free of charge. No one off payments, no membership fees, nothing. This is because their copyright has long expired and thus, royalties are no longer payable. That and Amazon wants to draw you in with these free books in the hope you'll buy their other books. In addition, this tool is also used by a number of new authors as a way of getting their work out into the public domain at minimal cost. So that's why Amazon and a number of new authors agree to offer this service as they're getting something out of it as well.

So for those who enjoy reading or are thinking of starting, you may find this app a useful tool in addition to the good old fashion book. I have attached the links to a few free books below to help you get started. But if you want more modern or "current" literature, you will still have to pay for those as unlike the free books, the copyright is yet to expire and thus, the royalties, if any, are still due. So go a read a book, even if you get rid of it after 5 minutes, it's worth a go at least, you may come to enjoy it and by reading, you could easily learn a thing or two.

Please note, all these links are for Amazon's UK site. If you live in another country, just go to Amazon's ".com" site or their site specific for your country or region.

The Wind in the Willows

Great Expectations

The Three Musketeers

Moby Dick

The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

P.S. Simply for disclosure, this blog isn't sponsored, I'm not getting paid to promote anything, I just think it's a useful tool. And like I said, this is all legal and above board, so don't worry about that. This is as I know some people will say getting free stuff, even if it is just a few books, is too good to be true. Like I said, Amazon's getting something out of it as well and that's why they're doing it.
